This Independence day, Arequipa celebrated it opening a new museum, this time in the cathedral. The new museum has 5 different rooms that display around 250 pieces. The visit includes a walk to the cathedral towers and that is priceless, I lived for 14 years in this city and I’ve never had the chance to get close to these amazing bells, and the view is simply spectacular.
The visit will start in ROOM 1 where you will find an area for interpretation of the Viceroyalty Art in Arequipa. After this introduction then you will go to ROOM2 where there is information about the Catholic Church in Arequipa, I recommend you to pay attention to the Archbishops’ paintings. The third room displays religious pieces that be long to the Cathedral, get to see these pieces is a great chance since most of the time they are only showed in the catholic celebrations, an example is the big Custody of 1.80 meter/5.9 feet. Or the tabernacle with pelican shape.

The next room has casullas (priest outfits for special masses), capes and several priest’s wears. In ROOM5 there are republican time paintings. But once again the five rooms are just an excuse for a different angle of the city from the top of the cathedral.
